Improving Bathroom Lighting Fixtures 101

In interior lighting, bathrooms often are given the least attention when bathroom lighting fixtures are supposedly as important as the lighting fixtures in other parts of the house.

Usually, after a day’s work, the best thing for most people, particularly the tired and stressed out women, to do is soak up on a glorious bubble bath in the grand bathroom’s bath tub---which makes bathroom lighting fixtures all the more important to the user. Lighting in the bathroom also helps uplift the mood of the room from dreary to light and cozy.

Here are some suggestions to make the bathroom more comfortable and cozy with bathroom lighting fixtures:

  1. Vanity or Task Lighting

Vanity lighting has the most advantage when setting up bath lighting simply because it puts a lot of effort into illuminating the user’s head and face for grooming. Placing recessed ceiling fixtures directly above the mirror is a common mistake people frequently make as this kind of lighting has the tendency to cast shadows on the face which in turn makes grooming rituals much more difficult for the user.

The secondary part of task lighting would be the shower area. If the shower stall has a clear glass door, dedicated fixture may not be needed, instead, a recessed lighting with glass lens would do the trick. Over freestanding tubs and toilets, the same recessed lighting fixtures would also work well.
  1. Ambient lighting

Ambient lighting or what most consider as ‘fill-in’ lighting may serve as a substitute for ordinary light. Often, this is provided by a central light fixture which could either be a surface-mounted ceiling light or a simple chandelier. This way, the light that emanates from this is diffused throughout the four corners of the bathroom softly.

Other than ambient lighting, there is one other option called ‘cove lighting’ where rope lights are hidden behind moldings that are several inches below the height of the ceiling. Like ambient lighting, this adds soft glow around the room.

  1. Accent lighting

Accent lighting is more for bringing out the sparkle and beauty of the tiles and fixtures in the bathroom, particularly in something akin to a powder room basin. This kind of bathroom lighting fixtures both exemplifies the beauty of the powder room and help in illuminating the important parts of the face to be powdered among others.

There are way too many things to consider in improving the bathroom lighting fixtures. Spending to fix bathroom lighting may be the solution to having a homey, cozy bathroom to relax in after a very busy day. At least, by then, you can relax all you want with the soft glow of bathroom lights.
